Converting
the DVD Files
This
is the part that is most difficult to complete. You must follow the instructions
below exactly as they are given. If you don't you will run into problems. If
you follow the instructions exactly, the conversion process it will go very
smoothly!!! What this process is doing, is converting the ripped DVD files into
a MPEG 1 format. From this format they can be burned onto a CD to be watched
by other computers. After the next step they will be able to be burned to a
CD for viewing from a DVD player!!!
As
you will be burning these files to Video Compact Disc, you'll have to make the
following specifications in your settings:
The
Audio has to be set at: 44.1kHZ (or441000Hz) Stereo @ 224kBits/s
Video
has to be set at: 352X240/29.97 Hz or 352X240/23.97Hz or 352X288/25Hz
We'll
show you how to make those adjustments later in this step.
Start
Flask MPEG

Click
File, then click Open File and select Directory that has
the files you just ripped. The Directory should be C:\DVD if you have followed
the instructions correctly.
Now
select the File VTS_01_1.VOB This is the files that starts your movie.
You
will get a warning message that shows you all of the files that will be encoded
into your MPEG 1 movie file.
Flask
MPEG is aware that there are other parts of the movie and will add them at the
right time. When the warning message comes up, just push OK.
SELECT
AUDIO TRACKS

If
there are more than one audio track on the DVD, a window will pop up where you
can select the right tracks. You should leave the default settings unless they
are to a foreign language track. In that instance, click on Flask iT which will
take you to the Main Menu. Next, click on options, then select Output Format
and make sure MPEG Encoder is checked.
Change
Settings
Click
on Options, then "Global Project Options (Export Movie Settings)"

It
is very important to make sure that your settings are the same as those shown
above!!!
Height:
240
Time Base (fps): 29.97
Click
on Audio Tab

Very
Important: Make sure that DECODE AUDIO is Selected!
Calculating
Time
This
is a VERY IMPORTANT step! You MUST calculate the compiling time.
To do this simply multiply the minutes of the DVD times 60. For example, if
you have a DVD that is 135 minutes in length, the total seconds would be 8100.
Place this number in the space near the top just below "Compiling Time".

Click
on the General Tab and make sure Compile Whole File is NOT Checked!
Changing
the MPEG Settings:
From
the main menu go to Start Conversion under Run.

You
will come to this screen:

Your
going to Click on Run then click on "Start Conversion". Then on the
screen above before you click that final start button, click on Settings! Then
select the VIDEO STREAM SETTINGS tab! If your on the general settings
or audio streams settings tab this screen will not look the same.

Make
100% sure that you check MPEG -1 on Video type. It is defaulted to MPEG - 2
and that will not work! Video settings must be on MPEG -1.
When
your sure your Video setting are correct, Click Start >
This
process will take a few hours to complete. When it's done, you will have a very
large MPEG file on your computers hard drive. If you just want to watch the
movie from your hard drive, then you are done. If you want to burn it to a CD:R
for replay in your DVD player, proceed to the Next Step!
